Nematanthus albus 'Santa Theresa' and Eucodonia andrieuxii?

This is Nematanthus albus 'Santa Theresa'. WOW! As you can see this is a bit of an upright grower and not quite as much of a trailer as I was expecting.

The flower is simply huge and it has an incredible fragrance that strikes me as citrus and a little Lemon Pledge.
The flower has really pretty markings in the throat that apparently attracts Euglossine bees.
I've got this particular plant under a dome with quite a high humidity and constant moisture. I am a bit hesitant to take it out of the high humidity and see if it is comfortable in ordinary house humidity and temperature.
I'm pretty enthusiastic about this plant and Kartuz has offered it in the past. I'm not sure if it's also offered by either Rob's or Lyon's, but it would be worth looking around for this one I think.
Also blooming was a really sweet Eucodonia which I think is andrieuxii but I'm not quite sure of the specific species. It's got the small flowers (compared to something like 'Adele' and it's not nearly as red or fuzzy as one like Woolly Morrion.
This is a close up of the flowers. Note the little landing strip of nice dots that will undoubtedly guide a pollinator to the "good stuff" in the middle of the Oreo (or in this case the middle of the Eucodonia).

  1. Where have you BEEN all my life?? I just discovered your blog recently, and it's one of the nicest I've seen. You have beautiful plants, well grown. My space is teeny tiny, so you're letting me enjoy a wide variety of Gesneriads vicariously; thank you. :)

Also, how's the Kitty Committee doing? They do grow alarmingly fast.

  2. Thank you so much! There will be more photos and posts now that the summer is winding up a bit... back to work, as they say!

The Kitty Committee is causing so much havoc and wonton destruction that photos aren't even quite enough to express it all. Domes on all the bottom shelves... domes I say....

  3. I have been growing the Santa Theresa for about two years now, and it does just fine without the high humidity. Similar conditions as for African Violet, and it is thriving.....Grows rather upright and also somewhat of a trailer.... Mine is currently about 12" tall and about 18" in diameter. Love this plant!

  4. Also have this plant; about 2 to 3 years now. Have had to separate and pot up at least 3 times now. Mine are grown in a barely damp basement under fluorescent tubing and do wonderfully. Have at least 3 pots of these now; this is a somewhat of a vigorous grower and the blooms are very fragrant.
